CHESTERLAND, Ohio — Guests who attend “Passeggiata in Italia” – A Walk Through Italy, an evening of fine at the International Culinary Arts and Sciences Institute in Chesterland – will support the school’s efforts to fund its scholarship program while feasting.
The event, also known as “The Bucket List Bash,” is slated for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6 at ICASI, 8700 Mayfield Road.
Proceeds from the evening benefit the ICASI Scholarship Fund, aimed at providing financial support to students at the school who are seeking a career in the culinary and pastry arts. Thus far, eleven students have received scholarship awards, three of them bestowed at the most recent Bucket List Bash, in 2012.
Students, their mentors and some local celebrity chefs will lend their skills in preparing the evening’s fare.
Appetizers and wines representing the regions of Italy, prepared and presented by local celebrity chefs — among them, Ben Bebenroth (Spice Kitchen), Dante Boccuzzi (Dante, DBA, Ginko) and Eric Wells (Ligali’s Bistro, Skye Larae Catering) — will greet guests when they arrive.
As the evening progresses, student chefs from ICASI and their culinary instructors will serve an extension meal, including nine courses and beverages.
Chef Loretta Paganini, who heads the professional culinary school, will orchestrate the evening’s food and activities.
“This year Italian theme is very close to my heart,” says Paganini, who grew up in Bologna, Italy.
“The whole food community in Cleveland gets together to help future chefs achieve their dream,” Paganini says of the biennial event. “From chefs to patrons, from graduates to purveyors, from foodies to wine makers [everyone] has been so generous and enthusiastic.”
For food-lovers who feel lucky, the evening includes an array of silent and Chinese auctions and a raffle – featuring a chance to win an expense-paid trip for two to Italy featuring an eight-night harvest tour of Piedmont, Liguria, and Tuscany. (The trip is scheduled for 19-28, 2015. Tickets for that prize are $100 each and are currently on sale; see details below.)
Other big prizes include a private cooking class package for twelve, taught by Paganini, and a Playhouse Square Broadway Series Package with two season tickets to all performances.
