Father Gaetano Menegatto CSJ

Father Gaetano Menegatto CSJ, 94, was born December 7, 1918 in Torri Di Quartesolo, Italy, and entered into rest Tuesday October 22, 2013. He made his first vows in the Congregation of St. Joseph in 1935 and in 1937 left Italy for a long internship in Ecuador, South America, where he was ordained September 19, 1942. In 1954, he was assigned to the CSJ community of Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he served as teacher at Lourdes Vocational School and then as Pastor of Lourdes Parish. In 1964, he opened the new community of the CSJ in Ohio, where he was the first teacher and Chaplain at Elyria Catholic High School, then, in 1977, Pastor of Holy Rosary Parish in Cleveland. After retiring in 1989, he joined the CSJ community of Avon and served at St. Vincent De Paul Parish in Elyria Township until June 2012. He was preceded in death by his parents, Giuseppe and Virginia (nee Chemello) Menegatto. He is survived by his brother, Gino (Marilisa) Menegatto of Italy; and several nieces; and his religious brothers of the Congregation of St. Joseph. Family and friends will be received Monday, October 28, 2013, from 3 to 8 P.M. at St. Vincent De Paul Parish, 41295 North Ridge Rd., Elyria. Vespers will be conducted at 3 P.M. Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, October 29, 2013 at 10 A.M. Interment will be at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Cemetery, Avon.
